Art Critique
This artwork was drawn by Elizabeth Lopez. She has many famous powerful artwork on display especially in Peru. This artwork looks powerful and I think it shows her or some woman experiencing a hard time or stress. She used lots of shading and light colors throughout this work to create this person. Her holding her head with her eyes close shows she going through some type of stress or issue. She uses more lines and strokes more than anything in this artwork. This work makes me think she is crying by how her head is down and she is pulling at her hair.

The artist doesn’t use color in this artwork because color is used to show more happy or joyful things but in this drawing she uses grey and light and dark pencil shades which symbolizes the sadness in this work. I think this work is meant to make people feel the same feeling as the lady in the drawing. The artist only drew the woman because she wanted to make her the main piece of the drawing for people to really focus on one thing like the woman because she is the message the artist is trying to show and adding more detail can distract people from seeing the main idea or reason of this work.

I think the meaning behind her creating this art is too show the artists own sadness. Maybe she’s been going through rough or challenging things in her life and wants people to see or feel her struggles. This could also be a self portrait or how she sees herself when she’s upset and this is what she looks like. The woman’s eyes are closed and looking down because she is embarrassed and doesn’t want people to see her sad. This drawing could also represent a friend of hers or someone she has witnessed going through pain or hard times.

I think this work shows deep meaning and feelings. This work looks more common and like she did it easily and it didn’t take a long time. Her craftmanship is nice but she could’ve used more detail in the woman’s facial expression. I think it’s a great drawing that obviously meant something strong to her. Her message and idea was successful because right when I saw this work it gave me so many ideas and possibilities of the meaning of her work and I thinks that’s what the artist was trying to achieve when she decided to create this artwork.
